CIRCULAR MOVEMENT OF DOT

The concept idea of the artwork demonstrates the Circular movements in space by Dance Improvisation and the ‘Gestural Rhythm of Dot’ that is recording a time dimension of a process of movements in painting. It gives another perspective on how we can approach new technology daily as one of the means to lighten up those values of body presence in the real time and space, if we activate the human senses, a proprioception, and the body-mind potentials for humanizing the digital. Thanks to all participants, their support enabled the realization of this project.

2020: A RESTROOM CULTURALITY

2020: A RESTROOM CULTURALITY
A restroom for visitors to reflect upon a cultural boundlessness, or culturality, of restrooms in the past, present and future, which comprises Gestural Rhythm of Dot recording a time dimension of a process of movements in painting, and a musical sound of circulator that may reflect the sound of present culturality in a place of installment. Material: toilet paper, painting or drawing materials (water color), environmental sound, real-time computer processing.
When technological impact on society takes its role, might be a time for artists to play their role. Art, to us, does not seem to be something that only tolerates a specific ‘beauty.’ Things that are ‘ugly’ might be actually where humanity is. To be specific, restrooms such as Japanese one—whoa, it’s a space of traditional hospitality, having within touch sensors for flash, toilet seat heats, incredible softness of toilet paper, even a sound of nature—are considered here to be a site for carrying out another artistic investigation.
Concept of the artwork generally relates to an idea of presenting a design of restroom as a demonstration of restroom culturality. Based on said concept, the artwork comprises: 1) ‘Gestural Rhythm of Dot’ recording a time dimension of a process of movements in painting, of yellow color symbolizing suns’ movement and of blue color rivers’; and 2) a musical sound of circulator that is synthesized with environmental sound reflecting the sound of present culturality in the place of installation. As a result, the artwork presents another view on restroom design, and also we hope it gives us a chance to reflect upon or test the notion, movement and music concerning restroom in the past, present and future, a moment of relief contemplating the boundlessness of the resting place.

Every Dot Is a New Beginning
The topic of the doctoral art project The Gestural Rhythm of a Dot – in the visual representations of personalized spaces of cities – a multimedia exhibition, refers to the reflection and execution of artistic poetics and technique, based on the personal experience of the artist’s life in different cities around the world. Isidora Fićović discovered the specific symbols and significant places of Istanbul, Linz, Hiroshima and Belgrade, where she spent some time furthering her professional practice at prestigious art institutions, by applying various research methods. The results of this research are presented in drawings and paintings using the gestural rhythm of a dot and are part of an interdisciplinary multimedia exhibition.
The Gestural Rhythm of a Dot evokes movement, a physical-manual presentation of work, cultivates the aesthetics of body or hand gesture in the playfulness of artistic elements: dots, lines and colors; it returns man to the beautiful and the sublime by emphasizing the circle as a form of perfection and the metaphysics of the dot as the temporal dimensions of the painting. Representing personal experience of urban spaces with different colors and densities of dots or circles, she characterizes the atmosphere, people and architecture of the city by colors, and expresses the intensity of the dynamics of urban life by the density of dots as an abstract form.
Isidora Fićović’s doctoral exhibition presents various rhythms, which metaphorically signify the culture of life in these cities, contemporary or traditional, while they literally have the meanings of music and dance specific to the chosen city. The Gestural Rhythm of a Dot – in the visual representations of personalized spaces of cities – a multimedia exhibition, encourages artistic and philosophical reflection on the dot, which in Japanese, Turkish, Serbian and German has the same meaning “every dot is a new beginning”, but a different sound rhythm of pronunciation.
